It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Lamar had no problem doing just that on Wednesday. They never let the Horse Creek Academy Stallions get on the board and left with a 9-0 win. The Silver Foxes might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 12 matchups by six runs or more this season.
Abby McManus made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out 14 over seven innings pitched. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run and one stolen base.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jordyn Scarbrough, who went 1-for-4 with four stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Those four stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Gabby Mendiola was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI and one double.
Lamar always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .541. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Horse Creek Academy only posted an OBP of .125.
The victory was the seventh in a row for Lamar, bringing their record up to 16-8. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.6 runs over those games. As for Horse Creek Academy, their loss ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 16-8.
As of now, neither Lamar nor the Stallions have any future games scheduled.
