After four games on the road, O'Connell is heading back home. They will take on the Balboa Buccaneers at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.
Last Friday, O'Connell took a serious blow against the Mustangs, falling 73-19. While losing is never fun, O'Connell can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 1278th, while the Mustangs are ranked 430th).
Meanwhile, Balboa's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Monday after their third straight defeat. They were outmatched by Washington at home and fell 82-52. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Balboa in their matchups with the Eagles: they've now lost eight in a row.
The losing side was boosted by Je'Mon Brown, who scored 15 points along with seven assists and six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Jason Hart, who scored 11 points along with two steals.
O'Connell's loss was their 13th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-14. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 22.0 points per game. As for Balboa, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-16 record this season.
