The Greenville Red Raiders had already proven themselves in the regular season, and didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They pulled ahead with a 42-41 photo finish over Northwestern. The win was familiar territory for Greenville who now have seven in a row.
Greenville's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Mazeo "mj" bennett, who rushed for 54 yards and three touchdowns. Kd Mosley was in the mix as well, providing Greenville with two touchdowns.
Despite the defeat, Northwestern had strong showings from Turbo Richard, who gained 119 total yards and three touchdowns, and Finley Polk, who threw for 278 yards and four touchdowns. Polk is on a roll when it comes to passing touchdowns, as he's now passed for three or more in the last five games he's played.
The last time Greenville lost on the road was back back in September. Having now won five straight away matchups, they've pushed their record up to 10-3. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 44.4 points per game. As for Northwestern, their defeat ended a 12-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 11-2.
Greenville is on the road again on Friday and play against Westside at 7:30 p.m. on November 24th. Westside is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last 12 games. Northwestern does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
