Football Recap: Winchester Community Starts Season with Win at Home

Winchester Community gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Friday. They took their matchup with ease, bagging a 40-6 victory over the Monroe Central Golden Bears. The contest was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point the Golden Falcons had established a 33-point advantage.

Cam Baldwin went supernova, rushing for 42 yards and two scores, while also throwing for 108 yards and a pair of TDs. Winchester Community also got a significant boost from Aidan Weatherhead, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 98 yards.

Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Winchester Community proved: they limited Monroe Central to a paltry 2.7 yards per carry. While two picked up at least nine total tackles, Carter Campbell stood above the rest. He picked up two sacks and made nine total tackles in addition to snagging an interception which he returned one-yard for a touchdown. Winchester Community didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 7.7.

Winchester Community's defense didn't let Carson Siekmann., get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for three sacks. Leading the way was Campbell with two sacks. He got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Winchester Community will challenge Knightstown at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. This will be the Golden Falcons' first chance to prove their worth in the conference. As for Monroe Central, they will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they take on Union City at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
