The Ryle Raiders's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their third straight loss. They fell 66-55 to Newport. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Newport's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Deshaun Jackson jr led the charge by dropping a double-double on 15 points and 11 rebounds. The game was Jackson jr's fourth in a row with at least ten points. James Turner was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with five rebounds.
Ryle bumped their record down to 4-3 with that loss, which was their third straight at home. As for Newport, their win bumped their record up to 5-1.
Ryle will stay at home for another game and welcome Boone County at 8:00 p.m. on December 15th. Boone County knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past five games -- so hopefully Ryle likes a good challenge. Newport will take on Huntington Prep in a holiday battle at 9:00 p.m. on Friday at. Huntington Prep has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 221 points over their last three matchups.
