Dakota has gone 9-1 against St. Clair recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. The Cougars will be playing in front of their home fans against the Saints at 4:00 p.m. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Dakota was handed a ten-run loss in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Tuesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-4 win over Anchor Bay. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Cougars as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.
Alivia Reardon spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on six hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in eight consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Julia Nowicki was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That's the most hits she has posted over her last 12 games. Katie Rusher was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, St. Clair had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Tuesday. They walked away with a 6-1 win over the Mariners.
St. Clair also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Hayley McFarlane gave up a run (which was unearned) on three hits and racked up eight Ks.
On the hitting side, Gracie Pickelhaupt and Madisyn Treat did most of the damage at the plate: Pickelhaupt went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI, while Treat went 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
St. Clair's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 20-5-2. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.8 runs over those games. As for Dakota, their victory bumped their record up to 21-11.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Wednesday. Dakota hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.8 home runs per game. However, it's not like St. Clair struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.6 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Dakota came out on top in a nail-biter against St. Clair in their previous meeting back in June of 2024, sneaking past 6-5. Will the Cougars repeat their success, or do the Saints have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
