The Avon Orioles pushed their score all the way to 56 on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell 65-56 to Westfield. While losing is never fun, Avon can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 99th, while Westfield is ranked 17th).
When it comes to explaining why Avon lost, one person who can't be blamed is Aniah Smith. Despite the final result, she scored 21 points along with nine rebounds and six assists. Another player making a difference was Joyce Smiley, who scored eight points.
This is the second loss in a row for Avon and nudges their season record down to 4-6. As for Westfield, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 8-2 record this season.
Avon will head out on the road to face off against Brownsburg at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Westfield will be home for the holidays to greet Noblesville at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. Averaging 60.2 so far this season, Noblesville's high-powered offense has been in full-swing lately, so Westfield better be ready for a challenge.
