Even though the Riverside-Durham Pirates have not done well against the Hillside Hornets recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Riverside-Durham walked away with a 55-43 win over Hillside. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Riverside-Durham also won the last time the pair played back in January.
Jaden Butler was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on ten points and ten rebounds. Another player making a difference was Mekhi Sneed, who scored 12 points along with two steals.
Hillside lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Ameil Braswell, who scored eight points along with two steals. Jayde Braswell was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with six rebounds.
Riverside-Durham's win bumped their record up to 13-7. As for Hillside, their defeat ended a 13-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 13-6.
Riverside-Durham is on the road again on Tuesday and plays Chapel Hill at 7:30 p.m. on February 6th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in North Carolina (Riverside-Durham is ranked 103rd, while Chapel Hill is ranked 82nd). As for Hillside, their homestand continues as they prepare to take on Northern Durham at 8:00 p.m. on February 6th. Hopefully Hillside focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 22 on Friday.
