It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but the Spring Valley Vikings ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They snuck past Fort Mill with a 62-56 win. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Spring Valley had a senior duo take command as Jordan Burgess scored 21 points along with five rebounds and three steals and Justin Skelton scored 20 points along with five assists and two blocks. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Burgess has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Joshua Nelson, who scored ten points along with five rebounds.
Despite the loss, Fort Mill saw an underclassman step up: AJ Washington scored 25 points along with nine rebounds and two steals. Washington has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last four times he's played. Nas Berry was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with two steals.
Spring Valley has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a massive bump to their 9-7 record this season. As for Fort Mill, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 12-7.
Coincidentally, the pair will both be playing Clover the next time they take the court. Spring Valley will host Clover at 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, while Fort Mill will head out to face them at 8:00 p.m. on Friday.
