Liberty is 8-1 against the Red-Tailed Hawks since December of 2014, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Saturday. The Liberty Lancers will head out on the road to challenge the Cheyenne Mountain Red-Tailed Hawks at 1:00 p.m. Hopefully Liberty is not getting complacent, as they presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Red-Tailed Hawks in Colorado (the Lancers are ranked 80th, while the Red-Tailed Hawks are ranked 243rd).
Liberty's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their third straight defeat. They lost to Doherty at home by a decisive 53-37 margin. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Liberty in their matchups with the Spartans: they've now lost eight in a row.
Liberty's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Jacie Bunck, who almost dropped a double-double on 14 points and nine rebounds, and Ava Dawes who scored five points along with two blocks.
Meanwhile, Cheyenne Mountain ended up a good deal behind the Rangers on Friday and lost 50-31. Cheyenne Mountain has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Liberty has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-9 record this season. As for Cheyenne Mountain, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-16.
Liberty was able to grind out a solid win over the Red-Tailed Hawks in their previous meeting back in January of 2023, winning 44-34. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Cheyenne Mountain's Anila Owens, who scored 17 points along with seven rebounds and four steals.
