Lakeland is 0-10 against Great Bridge since March of 2015 but things could change on Thursday. The Cavaliers will host the Wildcats at 5:45 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
If Lakeland beats Great Bridge with ten runs on Thursday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two games with that exact score. The Cavaliers came out on top against Nansemond River by a score of 10-6 on Wednesday. Winning may never get old, but the Cavaliers sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Great Bridge). Everything went their way against Hickory on Tuesday as they made off with a 16-2 victory. The result was nothing new for the Wildcats, who have now won six matchups by six runs or more so far this season.
Brody Comparto was a major factor no matter where he played. He struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). Comparto was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI. Those two RBI gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Cole Cinnamomd and Casey Cuddyer did most of the damage at the plate: Cinnamomd went 3-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs, while Cuddyer went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base. Those five RBI gave Cinnamomd a new career-high. Adam Bartley was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs.
Great Bridge always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .581. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Great Bridge's win bumped their record up to 9-5. As for Lakeland, their victory bumped their record up to 8-4.
Lakeland suffered a grim 6-0 defeat to Great Bridge when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Will the Cavaliers have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other baseball content.
