Ironton has gone 9-1 against Dawson-Bryant recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. The Fighting Tigers will welcome the Hornets at 5:30 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Ironton 3.5, Dawson-Bryant 3.9) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Ironton is probably headed into the matchup with a chip on their shoulder considering South Point just ended the team's four-game winning streak on Tuesday. They took a 5-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Pointers. Having soared to a lofty 16 runs in the game before, the Fighting Tigers couldn't push the score so high this time.
Aubrey Ferguson made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Dawson-Bryant had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They never let the Dragons get on the board and left with a 12-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Hornets, who have now won four games by eight runs or more so far this season.
Abbie Deeds made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out 15 over five innings pitched. She has been consistent : she hasn't tossed less than ten strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. That stolen base marked the first that she snagged this season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Mia Haynes, who scored two runs while going 3-for-4. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024. Braelie Hitchcock was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.
Dawson-Bryant kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Ironton's defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 5-1 and their overall record down to 9-2. As for Dawson-Bryant, their victory bumped their record up to 6-3.
Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. Ironton has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 11.2 hits per game. However, it's not like Dawson-Bryant struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4.7 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Ironton couldn't quite finish off Dawson-Bryant when the teams last played back in May of 2024 and fell 3-1. Can the Fighting Tigers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
