Pahrump Valley is 8-1 against Canyon Springs since March of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Pahrump Valley Trojans will venture away from home to square off against the Canyon Springs Pioneers at 3:00 p.m. Pahrump Valley is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.2 runs per game this season.
While Pahrump Valley didn't have the best season last year (they finished 15-19), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They blew past Mojave 12-2 on Tuesday. 12 seems to be a good number for the Trojans as the team scooped up a win with the same number of runs in their previous game.
Tony Whitney made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits over four innings pitched. What's more, he gave up only zero walks, the fewest he's had since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. What's more, he posted two hits, the most he's had since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Andrew Zurn, who scored a run and stole Two bases. while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. What's more, he posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. Benny Cimperman was another key player, scoring three runs while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.
Pahrump Valley always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .559. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mojave only posted an OBP of .190.
Meanwhile, Canyon Springs unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They fell just short of Eldorado by a score of 3-1 on Monday. The Pioneers haven't had much luck with the Firehawks recently, as the team has come up short the last five times they've met.
Isaiah Rogers made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one triple and one run.
The victory made it two in a row for Pahrump Valley and bumps their season record up to 5-0-1. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 10.5 runs. As for Canyon Springs, their loss dropped their record down to 0-1.
Everything went Pahrump Valley's way against Canyon Springs when the teams last played back in March of 2024, as Pahrump Valley made off with a 14-7 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Pahrump Valley since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
