Jonesboro came out on top against Mt. Zion on Wednesday thanks in part to the team's impressive 16-run second inning. The Cardinals put the hurt on the Bulldogs with a sharp 21-6 win. The Cardinals might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine games by seven runs or more this season.
Zorah Jenkins made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over three innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs but no hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted over her last five contests. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in two of her four plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.

In other batting news, Jonesboro got a massive performance out of Makayla Lamar, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with five RBI, three runs, and one triple. Those five RBI gave Lamar a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Brianna Mason, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and two RBI.
Jonesboro was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .538. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive matchups.
Mundy's Mill came out on top against Mt. Zion on Monday thanks in part to the team's impressive 19-run first inning. The Tigers blew past the Bulldogs 19-8. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Tigers.
Shamiyah Jackson was a standout: she got on base in all three of her plate appearances with three stolen bases and three runs. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times she's played. Daijah Wilson was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.
The victory got Jonesboro back to even at 9-9. As for Mundy's Mill, their win bumped their record up to 7-10.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Jonesboro has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.5 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Mundy's Mill struggles in that department as they've been averaging 10.6 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Jonesboro took their victory against Mundy's Mill in their previous matchup back in August by a conclusive 22-3 score. Do the Cardinals have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Tigers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
