The Salem Wildcats will face off against the Charleston Trojans at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The timing is sure in Salem's favor as the team sits on seven straight wins at home (dating back to last season) while Charleston has been banged up by four consecutive losses on the road also dating back to last season.
Salem will roll into the match after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up one run on Saturday, then bounced right back against Benton on Tuesday. Salem came out on top against Benton by a score of 16-1 (the very same score they lost by in their prior game). With that victory, the Wildcats brought their scoring average up to 7.8 runs per game.
Noah Nix made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched four innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Nix was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Salem got a big performance out of Keytin Grawe, who scored three runs while going 3-for-3. Grawe also brought in an RBI, marking his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Jalen Inlow, who scored three runs while going 2-for-4.
Salem was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .444. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Charleston came up short against Westville on Friday, falling 15-5.
Burk Anderson made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 1-for-1 with two RBI and one double. Quinn Taylor was another key player, scoring two runs while going 1-for-1.
Salem now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Charleston, their loss dropped their record down to 1-1.
Everything went Salem's way against Charleston in their previous matchup back in March of 2024, as Salem made off with a 15-5 win. Does Salem have another victory up their sleeve, or will Charleston turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
