Two dominant guards in Jussean Pearsall and Mayeen Majong are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The East Panthers will head out on the road to square off against the Lewis J. Bennett Tigers at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
East's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their fourth straight defeat. The game between them and Health Sciences Charter wasn't particularly close, with East falling 72-53. East has not had much luck with Health Sciences Charter recently, as the team's come up short the last five times they've met.
Despite their loss, East saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Pearsall, who scored 20 points along with two steals, was perhaps the best of all. Pearsall is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last 13 games he's played. Another player making a difference was Mysean Morrison, who almost dropped a double-double on 11 points and nine rebounds.
Meanwhile, Lewis J. Bennett's recent rough patch got a bit rougher back in January after their third straight defeat. They were outmatched by Health Sciences Charter at home and fell 91-47. While losing is never fun, Lewis J. Bennett can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 557th, while Health Sciences Charter is ranked 68th).
East's loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 4-13. As for Lewis J. Bennett, they have not been sharp recently as the team has lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-9 record this season.
East came up short against Lewis J. Bennett in their previous matchup back in December of 2023, falling 67-57. Can East avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
