The Westfield Shamrocks will face off against the Zionsville Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Westfield is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.7 runs per game this season.
If Westfield beats Zionsville with eight runs on Tuesday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two contests with that exact score. The Shamrocks beat Hamilton Heights on Monday by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 8-4. The victory continues a trend for the Shamrocks in their matchups with the Huskies: they've now won six in a row.
Chloe Tanner made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March of 2024.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Makayla Watson, who went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, four runs, and one double. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in May of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Ava Kainrath, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI.
Westfield kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, Zionsville entered their tilt with Lawrence North on Monday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They blew past the Wildcats 15-2. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight games by seven runs or more this season.
Liv Reid and Kristin Evers dominated on the mound. Reid tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits, while Evers tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.
At the plate, Zionsville let Tess Bradford and Charli Westerfield run wild. Bradford went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base, while Westerfield went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That triple was Westerfield's first of the season. Another player making a difference was Maddie Benedict, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Zionsville's win bumped their record up to 13-2. As for Westfield, their victory bumped their record up to 9-5.
Tuesday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Westfield hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .336. However, it's not like Zionsville struggles in that department as they've averaged .357. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
