Orting is 9-1 against Steilacoom since April of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Cardinals will be playing in front of their home fans against the Sentinels at 4:00 p.m. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
On Tuesday, Orting got the win against Clover Park by a conclusive 17-2.
Kathryn Prest made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits (and only one walk). Prest was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 5-for-5 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Those five hits gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Madalynn Halte was a standout: she went a perfect 4-for-4 with two triples, three runs, and three RBI. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Norah Fenton, who went 3-for-4 with one home run and four RBI.
Orting was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .667. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Steilacoom came into Tuesday's game having lost seven straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They were the clear victors by an 18-8 margin over Foss on Tuesday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Sentinels needed considering they were shut out in their previous matchup.
Makayla Downey was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out 11 batters over 5.2 innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5.5 strikeouts per game. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
In other batting news, Steilacoom let Harper Runn and Hannah Pace run wild. Runn went 4-for-5 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Pace went 2-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Hannah Basford, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Orting's victory bumped their record up to 5-7. As for Steilacoom, they picked up their first home win, bumping their record up to 2-10.
Steilacoom's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Orting has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.3 hits per game. It's a different story for Steilacoom, though, as they've been averaging 12.1 hits. Given Orting's sizable advantage in that area, the Sentinels will need to find a way to close that gap.
