Softball Recap: Make It Four in a Row for Shade

Shade came tearing into Thursday's matchup with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10.3 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They put the hurt on the Ferndale Yellow Jackets with a sharp 16-1 victory. The result was nothing new for the Panthers, who have now won five games by six runs or more so far this season.

Payton Maddy was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). Maddy was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs and two doubles. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in May of 2025.

In other batting news, Shade got a massive performance out of Tori Bowers, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Those five RBI gave Bowers a new career-high. Hayden Maddy was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.

Shade was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .615. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Shade's win bumped their record up to 6-2. As for Ferndale, they are on a 16-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-13.

Looking ahead, Shade will head out to take on North Star at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Cougars have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed seven runs per game on average), something the Panthers will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Ferndale, they will take on Meyersdale at 4:15 p.m. on Monday. The Yellow Jackets' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Red Raiders have averaged an impressive 9.5 runs per game this season.
