Basketball Recap: Ozanam Takes a Loss

Ozanam was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat dating back to last season. They were dealt a 79-41 loss at the hands of the Midland Adventist Academy Mustangs. Ozanam lost against Midland Adventist Academy in their previous head to head back in January, too, but the margin this time around was even wider than the 44-34 score last time.

Ozanam's loss came despite strong showings from A.W. Poke and Michael McVey. Poke posted 17 points along with eight rebounds and four steals, while McVey put up eight points and ten rebounds. That was a full 41.5% of Ozanam's points, marking the third time in a row he's had more than a third of the team's points.

Even though they lost, Ozanam smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've managed all season.

Midland Adventist Academy's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Aiden Cowan, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 11 assists. The dominant performance gave Cowan a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Blake Renfro, who went 7 of 11 on his way to 15 points in addition to eight assists and six boards.

Ozanam's defeat dropped their record down to 0-5. As for Midland Adventist Academy, their record now sits at 3-1.

Ozanam wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 49-41 win against Frontier STEM on the 10th. As for Midland Adventist Academy, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 54-51 victory against St. Vincent de Paul Academy on the 11th.
