Basketball Recap: Kyeona Myers Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Grandview Heights

Whitehall-Yearling lost to Grandview Heights back in January, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Friday. The Whitehall-Yearling Rams came out on top against the Grandview Heights Bobcats by a score of 69-56. Given the Rams' advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 211th, while the Bobcats are ranked 503rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Whitehall-Yearling's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Kyeona Myers, who posted 25 points in addition to eight steals and five boards. Myers' evening made it four games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaylee Jackson, who almost dropped a double-double on 18 points and nine rebounds.

Whitehall-Yearling is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.4 points per game. As for Grandview Heights, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-6.

Whitehall-Yearling will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Columbus Academy at 6:30 p.m. on January 6, 2025. Whitehall-Yearling is coming into the contest hot, having won their last four games. Grandview Heights will also get a bit of a break before their next game: they'll face off against Northridge at 6:00 p.m. on January 3, 2025.
