On Friday, The Eau Gallie Commodores got themselves on the board against the Bayside Bears, but the Bayside Bears never followed suit. They claimed a resounding 45-0 victory over the Bears on the road. Given Eau Gallie's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida football rankings (they are ranked 30th, while Bayside is ranked 358th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Leading Eau Gallie to victory were Dl Hardison and Latavious Welch. Hardison picked up 134 receiving yards and two touchdowns, while Welch rushed for 81 yards and two touchdowns on only five carries. Welch was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 58 yards. Delvonte Williams got in on the action as well, converting a pick into a touchdown.
The victory (which was Eau Gallie's third in a row) raised their record to 7-1. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 0-8 Bayside and 3-5 Flagler Palm Coast (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 33.3% over those games). As for Bayside, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-8.
Eau Gallie will be playing in front of their home fans against Rockledge at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Rockledge is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune. As for Bayside, they will head out on the road to face off against Jensen Beach at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Jensen Beach will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.
