This season hasn't been kind to the Dugway Mustangs, who are still winless after their fifth match. They had to suffer through a rough 68-24 loss at the hands of Pinnacle. Dugway was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 39-10.
When it comes to explaining why Dugway lost on Friday, one person who can't be blamed is Tanner Thackeray. Despite the final result, he scored 18 points. Thackeray scored a full 75% of Dugway's points, the fifth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Hazen Bullcreek, who scored six points.
Pinnacle was led to victory by Cole Barton and Brody Howell. Barton scored 18 points along with seven assists and six rebounds, while Howell dropped a double-double on 26 points and 16 rebounds. The match was Barton's seventh in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Joey Howell, who scored four points along with seven assists.
Dugway's defeat was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 0-5. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 25.1 points per game. As for Pinnacle, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 5-3.
Dugway's road trip will continue as they head out to face Wayne at 3:00 p.m. on December 15th. Hopefully Wayne focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 12 on Thursday. Pinnacle won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Merit Preparatory Academy at 3:00 p.m. on December 16th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Utah (Merit Preparatory Academy is ranked 135th, while Pinnacle is ranked 118th).
