Elk Grove is 2-8 against Sheldon since January of 2020 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Elk Grove Thundering Herd will face off against the Sheldon Huskies at 7:30 p.m. Elk Grove is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 60.1 points per game this season.
Elk Grove managed to keep up with Franklin until halftime on Friday, but things quickly went downhill from there. Elk Grove lost 71-48 to Franklin. While losing is never fun, the Thundering Herd can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 206th, while the Wildcats are ranked 67th).

Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Jason Raga, who went 5 of 11 en route to 13 points. He continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last four games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Danny Dennaoui, who posted five points and eight rebounds.
Meanwhile, Sheldon waltzed into their game on Wednesday with nine straight wins... but they left with ten. They claimed a resounding 90-52 win over the Wildcats. The match was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point the Huskies had established a 33 point advantage.
Sheldon found their leader in sophomore Baron Sabir, who went 5 for 9 on his way to 23 points. Sheldon's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 16-9. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 74.8 points over those games. As for Elk Grove, their defeat dropped their record down to 17-9.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Elk Grove has been crashing the boards this season, having averaged 34.5 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Sheldon struggles in that department as they've been averaging 30.8 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Elk Grove ended up a good deal behind Sheldon when the teams last played two weeks ago, losing 61-42. Can Elk Grove avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
