It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Cactus Shadows had no problem doing just that on Friday. They were the clear victors by a 56-35 margin over the Tucson High Magnet School Badgers. The result was nothing new for the Falcons, who have now won five matchups by 21 points or more so far this season.
Donivan Dixon had another great game (as he tends to do), throwing for 346 yards and five touchdowns while picking up 10.8 yards per attempt, and also rushing for 159 yards and a pair of scores on only six carries. He has become a key player for Cactus Shadows: the team is 5-1 when he posts at least 300 passing yards, but 2-3 otherwise. Brock Cashin did his part for the team as well, scoring a TD off of 90 receiving yards.
Tucson High Magnet School's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Makoa Pena, who rushed for 148 yards and one TD while picking up 9.3 yards per carry, and also picked up 52 receiving yards and one touchdown. Noah Chanez also helped out with an impressive 80 receiving yards.
Cactus Shadows pushed their record up to 7-4 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.3 points over those games. As for Tucson High Magnet School, they now have a losing record of 5-6.
Looking ahead, Cactus Shadows will head out to take on Arizona College Prep at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. That game will pit two of the most dominant signal callers against one another: Dixon and Evan Heinrich. Tucson High Magnet School does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
