Lenoir City is 0-10 against Hardin Valley Academy since March of 2018 but things could change on Monday. The Panthers are taking a road trip to face off against the Hawks at 5:30 p.m. Lenoir City is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.8 runs per game this season.
Lenoir City will bounce into Monday's match after beating South-Doyle, who they had gone 0-9 against in their nine prior meetings. The Panthers came out on top against the Cherokees on Thursday by a score of 4-3 (the very same score they lost by in their prior game).
Rylee Moore spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on 11 hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Sophie Reed, who went 2-for-4 with one triple and one run. That triple was her first of the season. Kymbal Williams was another key player, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 1-for-2.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Hardin Valley Academy). They put the hurt on Bearden with a sharp 16-5 win on Thursday. The victory was familiar territory for the Hawks, who have now won three games in a row.
Elsie Hatcher made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off eight hits. Those 12 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring three runs while going 2-for-5.
In other batting news, Alex Souders was incredible, going 3-for-5 with one home run, six RBI, and two stolen bases. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Emma Kate Schneider, who scored three runs while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.
Hardin Valley Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .523. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Lenoir City's record now sits at 8-5. As for Hardin Valley Academy, their record is now 4-16.
Lenoir City's speedy runners might be the difference in Monday's contest. The Panthers have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 5.1 stolen bases per game.
