Matt Romero was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over seven innings pitched. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, earning one RBI, two runs, and two stolen bases. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high.
Romero wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Toby Fortin, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one RBI. That's the most hits Fortin has posted since back in March.
Meanwhile, Middleton got the win against Meridian on Saturday by a conclusive 10-1. Considering the Vikings have won eight contests by more than eight runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Like Centennial, Middleton also got a great game from a two-way player: Staton Aldrich. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching four innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Aldrich was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and three RBI. That home run was his first of the season.
In other pitching news, Beau Buckner looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Drew Holman, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jedsen Aldrich, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
Centennial's win bumped their record up to 14-10. As for Middleton, their victory bumped their record up to 16-8.
