The Wellington Eagles had to hit the road for their first game and sadly it wasn't the result they were hoping for. They were dealt a 65-36 loss at the hands of The Academy on Tuesday. Wellington lost against The Academy in their previous head to head back in November of 2022, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 66-12 score last time.
Despite the loss, Wellington saw an underclassman step up: Brooklyn Jones dropped a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds. Ava Essay was another key contributor, scoring 12 points.
The Academy's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Rylyn Romero, who scored 19 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Keara Pogue, who scored 13 points along with 7 rebounds and 3 steals.
Wellington's loss dropped their record down to 0-1. As for The Academy, their win bumped their record up to 1-0.
Wellington will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Timnath at 5:45 p.m. on December 11th. As for The Academy, they will face off against Skyview at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Skyview focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 20 on Monday.
