Luther is 7-2 against Sparta since December of 2014, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Thursday. The Luther Knights will be playing at home against the Sparta Spartans at 7:00 p.m. Luther has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 1,202 points over their last 17 matches.
Even though Melrose-Mindoro scored an imposing 67 points on Monday, Luther still came out on top. Luther strolled past Melrose-Mindoro with points to spare, taking the game 81-67. Given Luther's advantage in MaxPreps' Wisconsin basketball rankings (they are ranked 117th, while Melrose-Mindoro is ranked 356th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, Sparta pushed their score all the way to 56 on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They were outmatched by Onalaska at home and fell 88-56. Sparta has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Despite their loss, Sparta saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Gavin Rhead, who scored 14 points along with five rebounds, was perhaps the best of all. Kayden Kaat was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with two steals.
Even though they lost, Sparta were working as a unit and finished the game with 13 assists. This was only their 12th loss (out of 16 games) when they've passed the ball that well.
Luther is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 13-4 record this season. As for Sparta, they have been struggling recently as they've lost nine of their last ten matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-15 record this season.
Everything went Luther's way against Sparta in their previous matchup back in December of 2022 as Luther made off with a 93-68 win. Does Luther have another victory up their sleeve, or will Sparta turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
