4A Region 7 recap October 8, 2013
Adding to the longest winning streak in 4A Region 7 this week, Columbia beat Purvis 34-14. The victory was the fourth in a row for the team.
South Pike fell to McComb 55-6 last week, the largest margin of any game.
The Tigers' offense was unstoppable this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Alex Woodall threw for 73 yards and Keyonta Addison had 36 yards receiving. On the ground Woodall contributed 101 yards. Trivillian Williams helped McComb's passing attack out by catching 1 ball for 10 yards.
Woodall was the best running back in the league this week. In 15 carries, he ran for 101 yards as McComb beat the Eagles. Aquindus Henson also contributed to the rushing game with 98 yards on the ground.
6-foot-4 quarterback Woodall of Malcolm Jones' team is the league leader in passing yards this season with 1,081. He has also thrown 11 touchdowns. The leading receiver in the league this season is Tony Maye. The Lawrence County star has 20 catches for 338 yards.
An important game coming up in the league this week will be when North Pike takes on the Tornadoes. At the moment, the Jaguars are in fourth, while Purvis is in first.
Columbia made the biggest leap in the national rankings this week, rising to 1,847 from 2,491. The advance stemmed from a 34-14 victory over Perry Wheat's team last week.
