The Overton Eagles will head out on the road to face off against the Sandhills/Thedford Knights at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday. Overton is looking to tack on another W to their three-game streak on the road.
Last Friday, Overton was the victim of a rough 42-18 defeat at the hands of Burwell.
Meanwhile, Sandhills/Thedford had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 51.7 points), and they went ahead and made it four on Thursday. They blew past Mullen 50-0 at home. The result was nothing new for Sandhills/Thedford, who have now won six contests by 22 points or more so far this season.
Kyle Cox continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 286 yards and six touchdowns while picking up 13.0 yards per carry, and also throwing for 78 yards and a touchdown on only six passes. Cox was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 59 yards.
The team's defense also helped out by holding Mullen to a paltry 88 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Sandhills/Thedford's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid him out three times before it was all said and done. Leading the way was Zeb Wilde and his two sacks.
Sandhills/Thedford's victory bumped their season record to 7-1 while Overton's defeat dropped theirs to 4-4.
Overton didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against Sandhills/Thedford in their previous matchup back in October of 2018, but they still walked away with a 30-24 win. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Sandhills/Thedford's Cauy Pokorny, who rushed for 125 yards and a touchdown, and also picked up 32 receiving yards. Now that he won't be playing on Thursday, will it be that much easier for Overton to walk away with another win? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
