Chavez and Houston Math Science & Tech are an even 4-4 against one another since November of 2017, but not for long. The Chavez Lobos will head out on the road to square off against the Houston Math Science & Tech Tigers at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with four consecutive losses for Chavez and three for Houston Math Science & Tech.
Chavez suffered their biggest defeat yet this season on Thursday. They took a serious blow against Westside, falling 83-9. While losing is never fun, Chavez can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1448th, while Westside is ranked 300th).
Meanwhile, Houston Math Science & Tech came up short against Westbury on Wednesday and fell 37-30. Houston Math Science & Tech has struggled against Westbury recently, as their matchup on Wednesday was their ninth consecutive lost matchup.
Chavez's loss was their third straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 5-15. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 9.3 points per game. As for Houston Math Science & Tech, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 12-9 record this season.
Chavez suffered a grim 41-20 defeat to Houston Math Science & Tech in their previous meeting back in December of 2023. Can Chavez avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
