Marie Philip has been on the road for two straight, but on Saturday they'll finally head home. They will be home for the holidays to greet the Maryland School for the Deaf Orioles at 1:15 p.m. Marie Philip knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past five contests -- so hopefully Maryland School for the Deaf likes a good challenge.
Marie Philip has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven matches by 21 points or more this season. They put the hurt on Newman with a sharp 68-42 victory on Thursday. With Marie Philip ahead 43-21 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.
Marie Philip can attribute much of their success to Xavier DeLeon, who scored 25 points along with eight rebounds and five steals, and Jeremy Novas, who dropped a double-double on 24 points and ten rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Novas has scored at least 25% of Marie Philip's points. Andrew Riebe was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with six rebounds and three blocks.
Meanwhile, Maryland School for the Deaf suffered a tough 53-32 loss at the hands of Mount Airy Christian Academy on Thursday. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Maryland School for the Deaf has scored all season.
Marie Philip pushed their record up to 7-0 with that win, which was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.0 points per game. As for Maryland School for the Deaf, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-3 record this season.
Marie Philip was able to grind out a solid win over Maryland School for the Deaf in their previous meeting back in February of 2022, winning 54-45. Will Marie Philip repeat their success, or does Maryland School for the Deaf have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
