5A District 8 recap November 5, 2013
Harlan County extended the longest winning streak in 5A District 8 this week by beating Bell County, 23-18. This was the team's fourth consecutive win.
Perry County Central and Pike County Central played the most contested game in the league this week, with Perry County Central eventually emerging with a 34-31 victory. Seth Napier threw for 126 yards and 2 touchdowns and ran for 17 yards in the win.
The Commodores' offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. On the ground Devan Brewer contributed 184 yards. John Toomer helped Perry County Central's passing attack out by catching 4 balls for 40 yards.

Brewer provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Justin Haddix's team beat Pike County Central. Brewer's favorite target this week was Pray, who caught 4 passes for 68 yards.
The Commodores' Pray and Toomer have formed a dream team this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. 5-10 quarterback Pray has thrown for 914 yards this season, while Toomer has 41 catches for 445 yards. Carson Whitehead from Harlan County leads the league in rushing with 991 yards.
Tom Larkey's team's Fred Massey needs only 73 yards against Lincoln County next week to surpass 1,000 rushing yards for the season. In 106 carries Massey has accumulated 927 yard this year.
Perry County Central made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 7,128 from 8,021. They were able to move up in the ranks after a 34-31 victory over John Chapman's team last week.
