Basketball Recap: Sacred Heart Prep Piles Up the Points Against Pinewood

Sacred Heart Prep won the last time they faced Pinewood and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Sacred Heart Prep Gators breezed by the Pinewood Panthers to the tune of 84-36. Given the Gators' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 167th, while the Panthers are ranked 746th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Leading Sacred Heart Prep to victory were Alberto De Bernardis and Matthew Norris. De Bernardis dropped a double-double on 20 points and 11 boards, while Norris went 9 for 14 on his way to 20 points and eight rebounds. The dominant performance also gave De Bernardis a new career-high in blocks (two). Another player making a difference was Jackson Selcher, who posted 11 points and six rebounds.

Sacred Heart Prep is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 10-6 record this season. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to three-point shooting accuracy: their three-point shooting accuracy was 31.6% in those games and 24% outside of them. As for Pinewood, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 9-8.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Sacred Heart Prep will head out to challenge Priory at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Priory will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something Sacred Heart Prep surely won't give up without a fight. As for Pinewood, they will venture away from home to take on Eastside College Prep at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
