The Hoggard Vikings will finish 2023 at home by hosting the New Bern Bears at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Hoggard has nine straight victories, New Bern has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Hoggard has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won eight matchups by 25 points or more this season. They took their matchup at home on Tuesday with ease, bagging a 72-22 win over Holly Springs. Hoggard's offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
Hoggard got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Tristan Shivers out in front who scored 18 points along with seven assists. The matchup was Shivers' ninth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Sarah Elgart, who scored ten points along with eight steals.
Meanwhile, New Bern was beaten by Jacksonville 67-28 last Friday. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for New Bern in their matchups with Jacksonville: they've now lost eight in a row.
Hoggard pushed their record up to 9-0 with that victory, which was their sixth straight at home. As for New Bern, their loss dropped their record down to 2-8.
Hoggard was able to grind out a solid win over New Bern in their previous matchup back in December of 2014, winning 40-30. Does Hoggard have another victory up their sleeve, or will New Bern turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
