Churchill is 0-10 against the Rattlers since January of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Churchill Chargers will head out on the road to challenge the Reagan Rattlers at 7:30 p.m. Churchill knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past seven matches -- so hopefully the Rattlers like a good challenge.
Churchill pushed their score all the way to 55 on Saturday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell 62-55 to Clark.
Meanwhile, Reagan had already won eight in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11.3 points), and they went ahead and made it nine on Saturday. They escaped with a win against Johnson by the margin of a single free throw, 48-47. Given Reagan's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 151st, while the Jaguars are ranked 400th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Reagan's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Aidan Richard, who scored 20 points along with five rebounds. Richard has been hot recently, having posted 18 or more points the last 12 times he's played. Kenneth Manuel was another key contributor, scoring 13 points.
Churchill's defeat dropped their record down to 13-16. As for Reagan, they pushed their record up to 20-10 with that win, which was their 18th straight on the road dating back to last season.
Churchill opened the new year with a less-than-successful 55-48 loss to the Rattlers. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Richard, who scored 18 points along with two steals. Now that Churchill knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
