The Malone Tigers lost against the Walton Braves back in January of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. Malone fell just short of Walton by a score of 42-40. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Malone in their matchups with Walton: they've now lost six in a row.
Walton's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Maleaha Johnson led the charge by scoring 12 points along with five rebounds and four steals. Those four steals set a new season-high mark for her. The team also got some help courtesy of Kenzie Lassiter, who scored 15 points along with five rebounds and four steals.
Malone has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-7 record this season. As for Walton, their win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 5-8.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Malone will square off against Bethlehem at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Bethlehem is out to stop a three-game streak of losses at home. As for Walton, they will head out on the road to face off against Chipley at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
