If the Miramar Patriots were riding high off their 83-53 takedown of the Monarch Knights last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Miramar took a 73-60 hit to the loss column at the hands of Northeast on Thursday. While losing is never fun, Miramar can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 225th, while Northeast is ranked 73rd).
Siah Blot and Zayvian Bieger certainly did their best on Thursday to avoid the loss. Blot dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten rebounds, while Bieger scored 14 points along with two steals. It was the first time this season that Blot pulled down eight or more rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Nehemiah Jean-Charles, who scored 14 points.
Northeast was led to victory by Anthony Rodriguez and Landen Joseph. Rodriguez scored 19 points along with six assists and six rebounds, while Joseph scored 25 points along with five assists and five steals. Joseph is crushing the steal category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Chanler Joseph was another key contributor, scoring five points along with 11 rebounds and five blocks.
Miramar's defeat dropped their record down to 13-12. As for Northeast, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 15-9.
Miramar will face off against South Broward at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Miramar's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last three games. Northeast is on the road again on Tuesday and plays Hollywood Hills at 7:00 p.m. on February 6th. Hopefully Northeast focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 on Thursday.
