Even though the South Garner Titans have not done well against the Knightdale Knights recently (they were 0-3 in their previous three matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. South Garner put the hurt on Knightdale with a sharp 59-38 win. Given South Garner's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 132nd, while Knightdale is ranked 282nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead South Garner to victory, but perhaps none more so than Tamia Darden, who scored 20 points along with eight rebounds. The game was Darden's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Taylor Moore, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 14 rebounds.
Knightdale's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ja?Kiyah Moore, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten rebounds. Those ten rebounds set a new season-high mark for Moore. The team also got some help courtesy of Melody Bryant, who scored eight points.
South Garner pushed their record up to 4-1 with that victory, which was their third straight at home. As for Knightdale, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-5 record this season.
South Garner will be home for the holidays to greet Garner at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Garner comes in still looking for their first win of the season. As for Knightdale, they will head out on the road to face off against East Wake at 6:15 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully East Wake focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 25 last Tuesday.
