The South Iredell Vikings''s recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fifth straight loss. They lost to Lake Norman at home by a decisive 24-10 margin. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for South Iredell in their matchups with Lake Norman: they've now lost four in a row.
Despite the defeat, South Iredell saw an underclassman step up: Tyler Johnson rushed for 140 yards and a touchdown on only 12 carries.
Lake Norman's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Trae Sechrest, who rushed for 100 yards and a touchdown. Another player making a difference was Mozes Morris, who rushed for 79 yards and a touchdown.
The team's defense also helped out by holding South Iredell to a paltry 239 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Lake Norman's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid him out six times before it was all said and done. Leading the way was Ethan Cameron and his three sacks.
South Iredell's loss was their third straight at home, which dropped their overall record down to 2-7. As for Lake Norman, the victory for they keeps them at an undefeated 9-0.
South Iredell will head out on the road to face off against Cox Mill at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Lake Norman, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Mooresville at 6:30 p.m. Mooresville is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt want to keep things rolling.
