Lawrence County is 9-1 against Floyd Central since April of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Bulldogs will welcome the Jaguars at 6:00 p.m. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Wednesday, Lawrence County got the win against Martin County by a conclusive 16-1. The result was nothing new for the Bulldogs, who have now won six games by six runs or more so far this season.
Boedy Maynard made a splash no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out nine over four innings pitched. Maynard was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Eli Fletcher, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Gray Derifield was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
Lawrence County hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Martin County struck out nine times.
For some reason, the away team has come away with the win the last five times Floyd Central and Pike County Central have met, but the home crowd finally got their W on Monday. The Jaguars sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 victory over the Hawks.
Landon Prater tossed a big game, tossing six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. What's more, he posted four strikeouts, the most he's had over his last four matchups.
On the hitting side, Jace Martin was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That's the most hits he has posted since April 1st. The team also got some help courtesy of Kolten Crum, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI.
Lawrence County pushed their record up to 11-8 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Floyd Central, their win bumped their record up to 13-9.
Everything went Lawrence County's way against Floyd Central in their previous matchup back in March of 2024, as Lawrence County made off with a 10-0 victory. Will the Bulldogs repeat their success, or do the Jaguars have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
