1A Western Slope recap Sept. 26, 2012
Jacobe Galley of Hotchkiss ran for the longest rushing play in 1A Western Slope this season against Monte Vista last week. Galley scampered for 90 yards on the play and finished with 292 on the day as his team defeated the Pirates.
Hotchkiss moved up to 52 from 80 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. Zac Lemon's team climbed the ranks as a result of a 48-20 win over Monte Vista.
The Bulldogs' offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Josh Hardin threw for 71 and two touchdowns and Conner Beard had 61 yards receiving. Galley helped Hotchkiss' passing attack out by catching one ball for 10 yards.
Trenton Tamayo made the biggest impact on defense this week as Hotchkiss defeated Greg Jones's team. The senior recorded three fumbles.
On the ground, the Bulldogs' Galley has rushed for 639 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Beard. The Hotchkiss star has eight catches for 229 yards.
The top two teams in 1A Western Slope will face off this week when first place Hotchkiss takes on second place Cedaredge. Hotchkiss topped the Pirates last week, while Cedaredge.
One of the league's premier quarterbacks will go head-to-head with its top pass rusher when the Bruins and the Bulldogs face off next week. Beard has dominated opposing QBs with a total of two sacks, while Dante Markley has 426 passing yards and five touchdowns on the season.
There should be lots of points scored when Hotchkiss and Cedaredge face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, the Bulldogs comes in having scored 125 this season, while the Bruins have scored 131. Hotchkiss scored 48 points last week as it beat Monte Vista.
