The Otay Ranch Mustangs will head out to take on the Olympian Eagles at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Otay Ranch barely beat Mar Vista the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Mustangs blew past the Mariners 10-1 on Tuesday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Mustangs considering their one-run performance the matchup before.
Otay Ranch got a great performance from Victoria Resendez as she tossed five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. What's more, Resendez posted five strikeouts, the most she's had since back in May of 2024.

On the hitting side, Otay Ranch let Kalina Sangalang and Itzel Soto run wild. Sangalang scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4, while Soto went 2-for-4 with four RBI and two runs. Those three runs gave Sangalang a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Avah Gonzales, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.
Otay Ranch was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .481. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Olympian not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since March 4th. They were the clear victors by an 8-1 margin over Coronado. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Eagles.
Sophia G Aquino made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching five innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3. That stolen base marked the first that she snagged this season.
In other pitching news, Alexandra Perez looked comfortable as she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one walk in ten consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, Olympian got a massive performance out of Kailynn Robeson, who scored two runs and stole three bases while going 1-for-3. Jacqui De Murguia was another key player, scoring a run while going 3-for-4.
Otay Ranch pushed their record up to 8-9-1 with the win, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.9 runs over those games. As for Olympian, they picked up their first home win, bumping their record up to 4-8-1.
Everything went Otay Ranch's way against Olympian in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, as Otay Ranch made off with a 10-4 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mustangs since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
