The Cathedral Fighting Irish will venture away from home to square off against the Columbus North Bull Dogs at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Cathedral is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.9 runs per game this season.
Things were looking good for Cathedral after they put the first run on the board last Wednesday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They fell just short of Center Grove by a score of 5-4.
Cathedral got a good showing from Ethan Dorsey, who tossed four innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Dorsey has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, Bo Cooper made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one triple. That triple was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Michael Gallagher, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run.
Columbus North not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since April 27, 2024 (when they won 14-0). They blew past Seymour 11-0. The Bull Dogs have beaten the Owls the last four times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Owls has come to flipping the script.
Columbus North also got a great performance from Joey Fry as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out nine over five innings pitched. Fry also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because the Bull Dogs are 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 3-6 otherwise.
At the plate, Brock Kintner was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Jesse Clark was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three runs.
Cathedral has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-6 record this season. As for Columbus North, their victory bumped their record up to 5-7.
Cathedral came out on top in a nail-biter against Columbus North when the teams last played back in May of 2024, sneaking past 3-2. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Fighting Irish since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
