Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Russell County). Everything went their way against the Chattahoochee County Panthers on Thursday as the Russell County Warriors made off with a 19-0 victory. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest win of the season.
Shane Otipoby made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 14 over six innings pitched. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in March of 2024. He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring four runs and stealing Two bases. while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances. He is becoming a predictor of Russell County's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 2-1 (and 4-9 when he doesn't).
In other batting news, Russell County got a big performance out of Harley Shoffner, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2. Those two hits gave Shoffner a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Conner Cox, who scored two runs while going 1-for-3.
Russell County was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .394. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Chattahoochee County only posted a batting average of .053.
The victory snapped Russell County's losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 6-10 record. As for Chattahoochee County, they are on a 17-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-15.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Russell County will face off against Marion County at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Chattahoochee County, they will take on Taylor County at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
