The Commerce Tigers pushed their score all the way to 56 on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 62-56 hit to the loss column at the hands of Athens Christian. Commerce has not had much luck with Athens Christian recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.
Tyler Sorrells and Maki Mitchell certainly did their best on Tuesday to try and avoid the loss. Sorrells scored 16 points along with six assists and three steals, while Mitchell scored 14 points. Sorrells has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last six times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Evan Peters, who scored nine points along with seven rebounds.
Commerce's defeat dropped their record down to 7-13. As for Athens Christian, the win was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 13-7.
Commerce will look to defend their home court on Friday against Rabun County at 8:30 a.m. Rabun County has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 687 points over their last ten contests. As for Athens Christian, they will head out on the road to square off against Elbert County at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
