The Winneconne Wolves will head out on the road to face off against the Campbellsport Cougars at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Winneconne is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.4 runs per game this season.
Winneconne proved they can win big on Tuesday (they won by 23) and on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged out Xavier 8-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Wolves have posted since April 29, 2025.
Julia Youngbauer spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and three unearned) runs on six hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Winneconne let Aubrey Mitchell and Grace Mitchell run wild. Aubrey went 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI, while Grace got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Avery Samolinski also deserves some recognition as she scored her first run of the season.
Winneconne kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Xavier only managed six.
Meanwhile, Campbellsport had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7.7 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Thursday. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 10-9 W against the Lions.
The team relied heavily on McKenna Loehr, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three RBI, two doubles, and one run. Mackenzie Helsell was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs.
Winneconne's record now sits at 4-8. As for Campbellsport, their record is now 8-2.
Winneconne skirted past Campbellsport 4-2 in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wolves since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
