Basketball Recap: Maryvale Prep Extends Road Winning Streak to Nine

Maryvale Prep had won eight straight road games dating back to last season and Amaya Myers did her part to make it nine on Friday. The stars were shining brightly for the Maryvale Prep Matador in a 36-18 win over the North Phoenix Preparatory Academy Gladiators thanks in part to Myers, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 27 boards. She is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last six games she's played.

Despite the loss, North Phoenix Preparatory Academy saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Alexandra Price posted six points in addition to five rebounds and four steals. The dominant performance gave Price a new career-high in steals.

Maryvale Prep's victory bumped their record up to 9-0. As for North Phoenix Preparatory Academy, they moved to 4-3 with that defeat, which also ended their four-game winning streak.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Maryvale Prep will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on San Pasqual Valley at 5:30 p.m. on January 10, 2025. North Phoenix Preparatory Academy will also get a bit of a break before their next matchup: they'll face off against Salome at 4:30 p.m. on January 6, 2025.
