The Deltona Wolves will face off against the Gainesville Hurricanes at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Deltona is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.2 runs per game this season.
Deltona's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Wednesday. Everything went their way against Astronaut as they made off with a 15-0 victory. The Wolves have beaten the War Eagles the last five times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the War Eagles has come to flipping the script.
Tessa Guenette looked comfortable as she pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Deltona got a massive performance out of Jaylene Mieres, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. That's the most hits Mieres has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Sophia Weinrich, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, two doubles, and one RBI.
Deltona hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Astronaut struck out seven times.
Meanwhile, with a playoff win on the line, Gainesville rose to the challenge on Tuesday. They came out on top against the Rattlers by a score of 5-1. Winning may never get old, but the Hurricanes sure are getting used to it with their fourth in a row.
Leanna Bourdage was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out nine batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Bourdage was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Madisyn Gillins, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Deltona's win was their ninth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-3. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.3 runs over those games. As for Gainesville, their win bumped their record up to 14-7.
Deltona might still be hurting after the 12-1 loss they got from Gainesville in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Can the Wolves avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
